If you aren't an instant starcraft genius the trek up the ranking ladder will be arduous and you will be frequently called "noob" (a term which means new player) and often it will have derogatory connotations to it. People with extremely sensitive feelings should steer away from multiplayer and multiplayer chat. ![]() The community is far better than Call of Duty's, partly because it's for PC users (which boasts a more mature fanbase, unsurprisingly) but still in some regards hostile. At least not if you're not really really good. Oh and don't try to out-muscle (out-macro) an insane AI. The game's appeal focuses mainly on its massive and competitive multiplayer community, the single player mode is just extremely limited. If you don't have a constant internet connection every time you want to play.well you're in for some disappointment. Families will want to pay attention to the addictive nature of this type of game. The multiplayer aspect, with players earning ratings based on how well they play, makes this a compelling game that is hard to quit. Also be aware that this game supports open online text and voice communication. Plus, the angled top-down view is less "visceral" than an up-close-and-personal first-person view. However, this violence is clearly within a sci-fi story that takes place in the future and on another planet (as opposed to shooting police in a New York City-like environment a la Grand Theft Auto). Violence will likely be the big concern, as players are battling rival factions to the death - with blood and limbs flying. The game includes plenty of violence (with blood and gore), foul language, and scenes with drinking and smoking. Parents need to know that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is a real-time strategy game set in the future and involves combat between three different alien races.
